Roll Material Chrome Steel 'KSTV'
For thermal rolls being used in modern high performance applications we recommend our own especially developed material KSTV. KSTV is a homogeneous chrome steel material, which distinguishes itself due to its very good shape stability under operating conditions and its wear resistance.
With temperatures, loads, widths and speeds - and subsequently roll stresses - increasing the call for new materials came up. For high stress applications forged steel rolls are being used more and more. Forged steel is a homogenous material - no layers as in chilled cast iron and after hardening has a very good hardness. Right now the delivery time of large rolls from forged steel are about 2-2,5 years. This situation might be tolerable for spare rolls but is totally unacceptable for new plants or even calender rebuild projects. Therefore the continuous development of new cast materials is mandatory for WALZEN IRLE.
With the introduction of KSTV a few years ago WALZEN IRLE have already set a new trend. KSTV is a homogenous material like forged steel and needs hardening like steel. KSTV can stand much more higher stresses than chilled cast iron and with this an alternative material for modern calender thermo rolls.
