The melting factory has 8 induction furnaces with a capacity of 3 to 30 tons, so that pieces of up to 130 tons can be manufactured. The five large furnaces were installed in a row on a newly erected furnace platform. They are operated via a central fully electronic platform and are permanently controlled. The quantities of the required alloys for the individual qualities are calculated with modern computer aided systems. The reference quality is passed on to the furnaces as a target specification. The mixture specification contains the necessary raw-materials such as scrap, circulation material, alloys etc., which are needed to achieve a specified quality.
The casting procedure takes place mainly in casting pits for statically cast rolls, in centrifugal cast furnaces for centrifugally casted rolls and pipes as well as in casting boxes for form casted parts.
The foundry is also responsible for the annealing of the work-pieces to reduce the material tension and to carry out the thermal material treatment. Due to the specific requirements the foundry works in three shifts.
